GREEN BUILDING
Green and energy efficient building is not just a trend….it is our future. Energy and water conservation is reaching critical levels in many cities and towns today and while building homes with energy efficiency is optional now, it will likely be required for every new home built in the near future. ENERGY STAR addresses one of the most important aspects of green building, energy. By taking steps now toward green building and efficiency, you are reducing your costs and energy consumption, providing a healthier indoor air quality for you and your family and increasing your home value.
HERS
Home Energy Rating System. The industry standard by which a home’s energy efficiency is measured. Every home we build is inspected and given a rating from the HERS Index to determine energy performance.
PLUMBING
We incorporate many water saving techniques, such as: Tankless Water Heaters (which reduce electrical costs by 30% vs. conventional tanks), High Efficiency Toilets, Flow Reduction Faucets & Showerheads, and Energy Efficient Appliances.
HVAC
We use high efficiency heat pump & gas heaters with hypo-allergenic filters & fresh-air modules. Return ducts are placed in all bedrooms and we engineer placement of AC equipment for balanced air distribution. We carefully seal and connect all duct work to ensure no air leakage, improving a home’s comfort level.
LIGHTING
We use LED can lights, ENERGY STAR light fixtures and ceiling fans throughout our homes, as well as CFL and LED light bulbs.
INSULATION
We install the highest quality Open Cell Foam Insulation in all walls and roof systems which fully encapsulates the entire home. Additionally, we Foam Polyseal all exterior doors, windows, electrical boxes, plumbing and all mechanical systems perforations to block heat loss and prevent heat gain.
WINDOWS
We use high performance, ENERGY STAR Low-E vinyl windows with the lowest solar heat gain values available.
INDOOR AIR QUALITY
We carefully select products and interior finish materials (example: paint) with zero or low VOC (volatile organic compounds) during construction, which help to improve indoor air quality. Also important to air quality is the control of moisture. Proper ventilation using humidity fans with automatic sensors, in conjunction with high quality insulation and a properly designed HVAC all help to control moisture.
